With Porcelain Veneers

If you aren’t happy with your smile, your self-esteem and emotional well-being could be affected. You may feel embarrassed about cosmetic flaws such as staining and discoloration, or chipped teeth. This could it uncomfortable to smile, laugh, or speak in public But you don’t have to live with an imperfect smile! With dental veneers from Dr. Dan Hostrander at Horizon Dental, we can restore your smile and boost your self-confidence.

The Basics

Veneers are a special type of cosmetic dental prosthesis. They are small, wafer-thin pieces of porcelain that are built to fit perfectly over your existing teeth. Veneers are bonded into place permanently, replacing the exterior chewing surfaces of your teeth, and restoring their appearance.

The treatment process typically takes only two appointments. Veneers are flexible and can treat almost any cosmetic issue, from minor tooth damage to staining, gaps in the teeth, and even slightly crooked or crowded teeth.

Fast and Non-Invasive

If Dr. Dan approves you for veneers, the placement process typically only takes two appointments, over about 2-3 weeks. At your first appointment, Dr. Hostrander will clean and numb your mouth, and then trim a small amount of enamel away from the teeth to make room for your custom veneers.

After this, images and impressions of your mouth will be taken. These are sent to a third party dental lab, where your veneers will be made. At your second appointment, Dr. Dan will check your veneers to make sure that they are a perfect fit and he will use advanced dental cement to bond them in place permanently. Your veneers will be buffed and polished, and you’ll leave our office with a new, fresh smile.

The Benefits

Wondering why you should choose veneers if you’re looking to improve your smile? Here are a few benefits of dental veneers:

Restores your smile quickly – In just two appointments, you can completely change the way your smile looks. Even if your smile has serious cosmetic flaws, it can be restored quickly with veneers from Dr. Hostrander.

No special care needed – You should avoid chewing very hard foods (ice, almonds, etc.) with your front teeth, and you should also avoid chewing non-food objects. Beyond this, simply brush and floss normally, and see Dr. Dan for regular six-month checkups.

Natural look and feel – Your teeth will look completely natural, and they will also feel natural when you chew, speak, and smile.

Are Veneers Safe?

What to expect

Veneers are absolutely safe and there are no serious complications or side effects associated with the placement process. Not only that, but Dr. Dan is an experienced cosmetic dentist and has years of practice placing high-quality veneers.

The only side effect that some patients experience after having veneers placed is minor tooth sensitivity. This is quite common after your teeth have been trimmed for veneers and you’re wearing temporary prostheses while waiting for your permanent veneers to be built.
However, some patients may experience some sensitivity even after their permanent veneers are placed. This is normal, and will fade over time. If your teeth are feeling sensitive after veneer placement, using an anti-sensitivity toothpaste like Sensodyne will help.

Can veneers be removed

PERMANENT Smile Enhancement

Veneers cannot be removed and the process of receiving veneers is irreversible. This is because during the preparation process, a layer of enamel about 0.5mm thick must be removed from each tooth that will be receiving a veneer.

Trimming this enamel away ensures that your veneers will fit onto your teeth perfectly without adding excessive bulk, and it also helps provide a stronger hold, ensuring your veneers last a long time. Once your veneers are bonded into place, your teeth will be just as strong as they were before treatment.

However, this process of trimming down your teeth is not reversible. If your veneers were to be removed, your teeth would be much weaker, so veneers are not intended to be removed. There is no way to remove your veneers safely once they’re applied, and if one of your veneers is ever damaged, dislodged or cracked, it’s important to have it replaced as soon as possible.
If you don’t like the idea of a non-reversible cosmetic dentistry treatment, dental bonding may be a better option for you. Dental bonding is not as durable or strong compared to veneers, but it offers similar results and is less invasive.

Can Veneers

Stain or be whitened?

Porcelain veneers are very stain-resistant. They are made out of a tough, nonporous ceramic material that cannot be stained by things like drinking coffee, tea or wine. Your veneers will continue to look bright and brilliant for years to come.

Resin (composite) veneers, on the other hand, are not completely stain-resistant. Without proper brushing and flossing, they may become stained and discolored. In most cases, the resin veneer can be buffed to remove stains.
